Mate’s First SUV Wins Design Award

Denmark

In the wake of Mate.Bike Australia’s launch in June, the parent company in Denmark has struck gold with its first e-cargo bike.

The Mate SUV last week won the Gold distinction award at the German Design Award, the premier award of the German Design Council.

The SUV was nominated because of its features the position the e-cargo bike as a real alternative to the car, including:

  • An LED bar, like that on a car, to create brighter visibility.
  • Wing technology to make it easy to load the cargo space and provide barrier-free access for children
  • A load capacity of up to 210 litres
  • A range of up to 100km
  • Dual disc brakes

The Mate SUV has a 250-watt mid-drive motor, with torque sensor, and is made of 90% recycled aluminium.

Mate is launching the SUV in Europe in 2023, with plans to expand its availability to Japan and the US the following year.

A release in Australia would be examined in 2024, based on levels of demand, according to Mate.Bike Australia Director Adam Wilkinson.
