Historic Bird Integration With Madrid Public Transport
Madrid, Spain
Bird has teamed with Madrid Municipal Transport Company to launch Europe’s first two-way bikeshare integration of apps and services.
Bird Bikes are now incorporated into the Spanish capital’s Mobility 360 transit app, while the city’s BiciMAD public bikeshare can be accessed through the Bird app.
The joint integration comes soon after Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida announced a €1 billion (A$1.493 billion) investment in the Madrid Municipal Transport Company and will help achieve one of the four objectives of the investment – “Be a green and decarbonised company with a sustainable energy model”.
“The Madrid Municipal Transport Company is taking a leading role in bringing more sustainable mobility solutions to residents and visitors, and Bird is committed to doing everything we can to support them,” Bird’s senior vice president of policy, Brian Buccella, said.
“This innovative joint bikeshare integration is a perfect example of how cities and transportation providers can work hand in hand to improve mobility for everyone.”
Bird has integrated its Smart Bikeshare Program with bikeshare services in a number of European cities.
“What makes this integration so innovative, however, is the fact that shared Bird Bikes are now also visible and accessible in the Madrid Mobility 360 app, alongside BiciMAD and BiciMAD Go vehicles,” Bike said in a statement.
“Madrid also joins cities like Rome and Bordeaux offering Bird’s full multimodal fleet of eco-friendly scooters, bikes and integrated alternatives such as public bikes and e-mopeds.”
