Rockhampton Rail Trail Study Open for Public Comment
Rockhampton, QLD
Preliminary designs for a Mt Morgan rail trail near Rockhampton have been released for public comment.
Rockhampton Regional Council is proposing a 17.5km trail in central Queensland, between Rockhampton, the trail head at Kabra and Mt Morgan.
The plans are open for public feedback until this Sunday, as part of a feasibility study due to be completed next month after the Queensland Government provided $250,000 to fund the study.
A road-side path is proposed to provide a link between Rockhampton and the start of the rail trail at Kabra.
The trail is a key project identified in the council’s Advancing Mt Morgan strategy adopted in November 2019 to support business, create opportunities for employment and education, and unlock the historic township’s tourism potential.
Mt Morgan currently has a 25km network of cycling and walking trails through its recreational and water reserve area, catering to a range of rider skills up to challenging mountain bike single track.
