Product Briefs: First Automatic E-Bike Motor & Mercedes E-Scooter

Girona, Italy

An Italian start-up’s campaign to develop the world’s first automatic motor for e-bikes has attracted a rush of investors before its fund-raising campaign has gone public.

Niche Mobility, based in Girona, is developing an Automatic Digital Transmission System (ADTC) complete with regenerative breaking.

The company had scheduled to begin its Crowdcube fund-raising campaign last Tuesday, with a goal to attract €250,000 (A$407,207) to help fund its development of the ADTC. However, 65 sponsors got on board while the campaign was still in private mode.

Mercedes AMG E-Scooter

The high-performance arm of Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, has teamed with Swiss micromobility specialist Micro Mobility Systems AG, to produce its own integrated e-scooter.

It is the second e-scooter to come out under Mercedes branding, as the German luxury automotive company pursues its goal to be fully electric by the end of the decade.

The new scooter has a range of up to 40kmh, with a 500-watt motor, 9.6Ah battery, and a twist-grip braking system that activates a kinetic recuperation system for braking and recharges the battery.

App connectivity enables the rider to use their smart phone to control the scooter’s driving mode and lights and view the scooter’s integrated navigation system and dashboard display.
