Mass Ride to Promote Better Streets
Sydney, NSW
A mass ride, walk and roll in the heart of Sydney will be held on Saturday 4th March as part of the Better Streets coalition to boost active transport in NSW.
Organisers of the Better Streets Weekend Walk and Ride are anticipating hundreds of participants will join the walk and ride along cycleways from Circular Quay to Prince Alfred Park in Redfern.
“This is a chance to bring together as many coalition members and individuals as possible, building excitement, momentum and some great social media content which we will use and carry with us all the way through to the NSW State Election on the 25th March,” according to announcement.
“This event also is a great opportunity to reach organisations that would be interested in joining the coalition.
“The more traction the event gets on social media, the more people and community organisations it will reach, being a great advertising tool for growing the Better Streets Coalition.”
Organisers this week launched their social media campaign for the weekend and encouraged coalitions to help share the Facebook and LinkedIn posts.
Better Streets Campaign Coordinator Dominic Nevin said they are also looking for volunteers at the event to help distribute merchandise and film the ride.
Sydney’s e-bike share service providers are backing the event, with Lime, Beam, Neuron and Hellobike offering a 50% discount to riders who use their bikes during the weekend.
E-Bike subscription services Lugg+Carrie and Zoomo are also supporting the event, with involvement by Bike Marrickville, Best East and potentially other inner city Bicycle User Groups (BUGs).
Participants are being asked to gather at Circular Quay from 10am, before departing on the 4km journey at 10.30am.
Supporters who can’t attend the Sydney event are being encouraged to host a walk or ride in their area and post photos of their event on social media, with the hashtag #betterstreets.
Better Streets has also started regular drop-in sessions to provide updates on the coalition. Participants can attend in person at the Regents Hotel in Redfern each Monday at 6-7pm or online on Wednesdays at 12.30-1.30pm and Sundays at 7-8pm.
