I’ve Got a Golden Ticket! … err, Golden Helmet.

E-scooter operator, Neuron Mobility, ran its fourth annual Helmet Safety Awareness Week from 21st to 29th September, in partnership with road safety charity the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF). This year’s campaign, which is referred to as ‘Golden Helmet Week’, will build on their continued commitment to highlight the importance of wearing a helmet while riding an e-scooter.

As part of Helmet Safety Awareness Week, Neuron committed up to $100,000 globally for rider education and incentives to reinforce the importance of helmets.

For the duration of the week, Neuron equipped a handful of e-scooters in each city with a golden helmet for the ‘Golden Helmet Challenge’ and those who took a ride on one won a free trip. Riders can use the e-scooter’s app-controlled helmet lock to release the helmet at the start of the trip. For an extra bonus, they can also take an in-app ‘helmet selfie’ to earn credits for future rides.

Neuron’s Safety Ambassadors were out in greater numbers at e-scooter hotspots or at ScootSafe events during the week to remind users of the riding rules. The company also promoted helmet use and safe riding through a series of light-hearted videos on social media and rider emails, and riders were directed to their online ScootSafe Academy for incentivised quizzes, videos and games.

In Australia, more than 99.99% of all trips end safely and without incident. Neuron has also revealed their top five most frequent – and safest – riders across its Australian cities. The top rider travelled an astounding 13,700 kilometres in Melbourne; followed by 10,700 kilometres in Canberra; 9,230 kilometres in Bundaberg; 6,465 kilometres in Townsville; and 4,670 kilometres in Busselton. All trips by these riders were completed incident-free.

Jayden Bryant, General Manager, Australia and New Zealand, Neuron Mobility said: “It’s great to be running our fourth-annual Helmet Safety Awareness Week in Australia. Although 99.99% of all Neuron trips end safely and without incident; helmets are one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent serious injury in the unlikely event of an accident. Everyone should wear a helmet to protect themselves, it is mandatory in Australia, and we want people to continue to wear them long after the campaign ends.”

Russell White, Founder and Chair, Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) said: “We are delighted to continue our work with Neuron, especially partnering with them for the fourth annual Helmet Safety Awareness Week. It is so important that riders are educated on the riding rules, including how to ride safely and responsibly and that includes the importance of using a helmet when riding an e-scooter for their own safety and to avoid heavy fines.”
