Huge Ridership and Business Generated by Newly Opened Rail Trail
Victoria has long led Australia in terms of the construction and ridership of rail trails. The state now boasts and extensive network, of which three of the best known and most heavily used include the Murray to Mountains, Lilydale to Warburton and Bellarine rail trails.
But despite this economic success from their traditional rival, for whatever reason the NSW government has been extremely reluctant to build any of the many potential rail trail routes throughout the state.
That changed in 2015 when the 22 km Tumbarumba to Rosewood rail trail was approved for funding as a ‘Pilot Rail Trail’.
It officially opened on 3rd April 2020 and has been an immediate recreational and economic success.
