WestInvest’s $33.7 Million for Active Transport Infrastructure

Plans for new walking and cycling tracks in western Sydney have been unveiled in a series of NSW Government announcements for its $5 billion WestInvest program.

Blue Mountains City Council, Hills Shire Council and Hawkesbury City Council will benefit from new active transport infrastructure, announced by Premier Dominic Perrottet and Treasurer Matt Kean earlier this month.

A total of $24.4 million has been earmarked for Blue Mountains City Council for four active transport projects:

$14 million to establish 24km of cycling and walking trails to improve connections between 27 towns and villages in the Blue Mountains
$5.6 million to add a 1.9km section to the Great Blue Mountains Trail. The missing link between Kiah and Echo Point will connect Leura Station to Scenic World and the Katoomba Golf Course Precinct.
$2.6 million for a new 3.8km off-road shared path at Yellow Rock, along Singles Ridge Road
$2.2 million to add 2km to the Great Blue Mountains Trail at Katoomba

In a separate announcement for Sydney’s north west, the Premier and Treasurer confirmed the allocation of $4.7 million for Hawkesbury City Council to build a new cycleway bridge over Rickabys Creek in Windsor, completing a continuous path for cyclists and pedestrians between the Richmond and Windsor town centres.

Hills Shire Council will receive $4.6 million to implement a new pedestrian and cycling bridge crossing to access Castle Hill Showground.

Funding for the four projects was announced alongside grants for sports arenas, aquatic centres, cultural facilities, health centres and environmental projects.
