Queensland E-Mobility Incentive Scheme Doubled

On Monday 30th September the Queensland government announced that they were doubling the previously launched $1 million e-Mobility Rebate Scheme due to exceptional demand.

Surpassing all expectations, an extra million dollars was added, with the Government stating it received over 860 applications for e-bike and e-scooter incentives in just the first three days of the scheme opening.

There’s been a history of incentive schemes being massively oversubscribed, everywhere from Denver, Colorado which was one of the first cities to start a scheme, to several smaller schemes in Australia that have preceded the Queensland one.

Queensland’s incentive scheme joins the Tasmanian government scheme launched earlier in 2024. We wrote about the announcement of that scheme here and it’s strong public success here. There have also been schemes established by the City of Adelaide and the City of Holdfast Bay in South Australia and Merri-bek Council in Melbourne.

Queensland rebate scheme offers $500 per eligible e-bike and $200 per eligible e-scooter. You can see a detailed description of what vehicles qualify at the Queensland government website page here.

The original scheme came into effect from 23rd September, so the government waited only one week before doubling its size.

At least one local Brisbane e-bike shop reported booming sales as a result of the scheme.
